DJ was honored at  the Ultimate series last  Saturday night  for bringing back a National Championship to his local District 6 he still runs.  He  was proud to get his first plaque with a picture of his  DRR on it!!!
DJ seems to have caught the mechanic bug early just like his dad.  He helps work on his brother's DRR to get it race ready for the season.
Tri-State of Champions
DJ brings home his second 1st place finish at the Tri-State of Champions.  The weather would not cooperate, but that did not stop DJ.  He  grabbed both holeshots and passed all but one 90 in both motos on his Hetrick 70.

2009 AMA ATV Motocross Championship ATV Banquet
DJ finally allowed Erin to interview him at the banquet in front of hundreds of people.  I think the podium during the season would have been less uncomfortable for DJ, but I guess when your ready your ready!!!

When a child knows his passion, a family works with him, By Pat Morris

Wantage — Some people spend the better part of a lifetime discovering their passion; some never do. For one youngster, however, that passion emerged when he was 4 years old. And it turns out, it’s his talent, too. read entire article ....
NEATV at Walden Motocross Track

Well we were supposed to have a weekend off, but it was hard to resist going to our closest track where DJ started it all.  This weekend the best of NEATV (New England ATV series) came back to Walden for their fall race of the season.  DJ was on fire and lit them up this weekend!! He had not seen his New England friends since the banquet last January.  Although we were second to last gate pick as usual, it did not matter.  He shot out of the gate into the first turn and never gave up his spot.  With some really tough competition on his heels he pulled off a first in his first moto.   He was confident he could come out with a win again later that day.  We had the usual issue with his engine bogging at the gate.  He came out almost dead last in the first turn, but by the second turn he had passed nearly half over the first double.  Although his engine wasn't running right, as long as he kept it wound up it seemed to have gotten better.  Lap by lap he picked off one, and then another.  On the fourth lap he took the lead and never looked back!! Back to back wins against the best in the northeast - way to go DJ!!!!
District 6 at Evansville

DJ was back at his second D6 race at Evansville this weekend.  I didn't let on, but I was nervous about this one.  He had never been on this track before, and it has probably the wildest down hills he's had to face all season.  Obviously, I had nothing to worry about according to his results.  He got the holeshot in the first moto and rode his butt off to win his first 70cvt class of the season.  The second moto his spring went again on the gate, only being able to come up with a fourth.  What a weekend it was for DJ - he is full of confidence and looking REALLY comfortable on his machine now!!

District 6 at Hurricane Hills
DJ was back at the district level, happy to see all of his friends.  Hurricane Hills has always been a track he loves - wide open - high speed.  He woke up the morning of the race and said to me something he has never said about racing his 70 before.  He said "Mom, I think I can win!"  That's a tall order to beat the #31, but he gave it his best shot that day.  He came out of the holeshot first and led Travis for 3 laps.  That itself was impressive, but what was more impressive is that he never let him out of his sights.  Moto 2 he was pumped!!  He came out with the holeshot again and his lead was short lived.  The #31 got him not even half way into the first lap, but DJ did not give up.  He came back at him on the last lap leaving only a bus length between them when he crossed the finish line.  Win he did not, but close he did come!!!
50cc Limited
National Champion

Well we ended the season just like we started the season.  A few mechanical problems and then an injury.  DJ was last gate pick in the 50 class, but somehow came out second in the holeshot during the first moto.  It didn't take him long to get the lead, but the lead was very short lived.  Half way into the first moto his engine took in a reed pedal and ruined the piston so he DNFed.  The second moto on Sunday was his toughest race of the season.  He had last gate pick again, and came out dead last in the freshly tilled up holeshot. The leaders were so far gone that it took him until the end of the third lap to pass all 17 quads and make the pass for the lead.  It was business as usual after that until he landed off a jump with a tank slap coming to a complete stop with an injured thumb, arm and ribs.  He regrouped himself to come out with a second, and we are thankful that nothing was broken.  The 70 class I believe had the largest turn out of the season with yet again a set of qualifiers.  He got the holeshot in the first moto and came out with a fifth.  He was confident the next day that he would win the holeshot award, but his engine bogged at the line leaving him stuck behind the wreck in the first turn.  While he was detained from starting the race again, the entire field just took off.  Starting dead last after the pile up he worked his way up to eleventh.  What a week of fun and excitement the kids had.  We just want to say that we are so very proud of DJ for winning his first National Championship!!!  We want to thank all of his sponsors for helping make this possible!! Thanks also goes out to DJ's first grade teacher, Mrs. Whitcroft, for supporting his talent and dreams!!!!!

8 August 09 ...Red Bud National, Buchanan, MI
Check out Brandon after his first career race!! The smile says it all!!!

It was a different format this past weekend at Red Bud.  They ran DJ's 50 classes back to back on their mini track, and then he had to race immediately over to staging for the 70's on the big track for Saturday.  We thought 24 laps back to back would have got the best of him, but his results showed he had energy in his reserves for some outstanding finishes.  He went out and got both holeshots in the 50 class and took first in both moto's.  He was feeling real confident on the 70 this past weekend.  He came out second in the holeshot after he hit a big hole in the track - was racing in third when he went off the berm and then raced his way from sixth back up to fourth by the end of the moto.  On Sunday with only one moto to run he came out and got the holeshot and then gave up two spots while he cautiously checked the track out on the first lap and then he passed his way up to second for a third overall for the weekend.  It was a rough track for the little guys, but what a beautiful facility!!!

17 July 09 ... Suzuki Summer Nationals at Pleasure Valley Raceway, Armagh, PA
It was a little bit of everything this past weekend.  A little cool, a little rain, and a little sunshine.  But a lot of great racing!!  It was DJ's second year back at Pleasure Valley.  A track he proves to love.  He let it all out in both classes this weekend.  He rode his butt off in the 50 class to take both victories.  While in the 70 class he got the holeshot in his qualifier and lead for about a quarter lap.  The next two laps he held onto an impressive second before giving up another position to come in third.  The second moto he came out about fourth in the holeshot and turned out some great lap times to come in fifth.  He left that day with an surprising overall fourth.  Just want to give a shout out to Jim from Motowoz for really getting DJ's shocks dialed in!!
27 June 2009 ... Scott Southern ATV National at Muddy Creek , Blountville, TN
DJ was back at it in Tennessee in the 50 class.  It was a clean sweep in both motos.  Unfortunately, our bad luck was back, having mechanical problems in the 70 CVT class.  He was holding onto a steady fourth place finish after he got the holeshot and fell back quickly on the last lap after his water pump came off.  Due to it being an odd round, as his races are very close together, he came out of the holeshot on fire in the second moto, but the heat and exhaustion quickly caught up to him as he finished in the back.  Hopefully, we left the heat back at Muddy Creek and PA will be cooler for the next even round.
15 June 2009... CAN-AM NORTHEASTERN ATV NATIONALS, Unadilla MX, New Berlin, NY
It was a beautiful weekend and the weather held out for both our races.  DJ went 1-1 in the 50 limited class.  The first moto he came out second but took the lead before gravity cavity which took him to the first win of the day.   The second moto he came out with the holeshot and kept his lead to his second win of the weekend.  Unfortunately, we had what seems to be our usual of ups and downs in the 70 class.  He came out with an impressive holeshot in his qualifier and held onto a fourth place finish.  The second moto of the weekend was not so impressive.  He came out of the holeshot second and gave up several positions immediately as his seat started to come off right before the gravity cavity.  He had no choice to stand for the rest of the entire race in which he finished in the back of the race order.  At least all we have to do for Muddy Creek is make sure our seat is fastened!!!!

28 April 2009 ... ATVA MX, ATV Stampede at Steel City
DJ won both his 50 stock limited classes.  He had to overcome the gate not going down in the first moto and survive the mud the next day in the second moto.  He had to qualify for the 70CVT class.  He got a 4th in his qualifier which we were very proud of, but the best was yet to come.  On Sunday he got the holeshot by quite a large margin and rode his butt off to take an impressive second on the second moto.  His overall finish was a third.  Although he refused to go to the podium once again, it was great to see his confidence back - let's hope it sticks for the rest of the season!!

6 April 2009 ... Round 3 of the 2009 ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Championship at Birch Creek, VA.  He won both holeshots in the 50 class and went 1 and 1.  He got the holeshot in his qualifier for the 70 class and placed a 5th. He finished 15th in the second moto because of engine trouble.  It was a beautiful weekend and we had a great time!!!
